A birthday, a shared word, or an inside joke can become the key to a time capsule. Opening conditions add anticipation, meaning, and a little play to discovering your memories.

Available opening options

5 opening options are available. Choose one or combine them to make discovering the memory part of the experience.

A date and time. Open it on a birthday, an anniversary, or another day that matters.
A window of time. Make it available between the start and end dates you choose.
A shared password. Let a word you share become the key to the memory.
A secret question. Ask something your people remember. The right answer opens it.
A little quiz. Turn a shared story or an inside joke into a multiple-choice challenge.

Date and date range share one Date control in the builder. Add an end date to choose a window of time; leave it off for a single opening date.

A special place — Coming soon. Location-based opening is in development and cannot be selected yet.

Combining them

These strategies describe how your selected conditions work together:

All of them. Every selected condition must be met.
Any one. Meeting any one of the selected conditions is enough.
A surprise. A randomly selected condition decides whether it opens.

Opening a capsule someone sent you

Got a link or a QR code? Follow it to the time capsule and complete the opening conditions shown. A date may require waiting; a password, question or quiz may ask for an answer. The selected combination strategy determines what must be met.

If the time capsule is private, sign in to an account with access. The link itself does not grant access or bypass opening conditions.

Common questions

Can I use more than one?

Yes. Add different conditions and choose All of them, Any one, or A surprise. A date and a date range are alternative settings of the same Date control.

What’s the surprise option?

Choose “A surprise” to let a randomly selected condition decide whether the time capsule opens. This is a combination strategy, rather than an additional opening condition.

Can I open it early?

No. Once a capsule is sealed, it waits for the moment you chose — that’s the whole magic of it.
